We’ve had a group on Facebook now for over a month. Before that, many of us were finding one another by accident at Emergent gatherings, cohort groups, or official Baptist gatherings.
The goal with this blog is to expand our network of friends to those who have not yet forayed into the social network called Facebook. Plus this gives us another creative outlet for conversation.
I’ll being playing around with set-up for the next week. After that, we’ll start working on site content. We’ll be contacting folks to write posts, record podcasts, and the like soon enough. Until then, let us know what you think of the look here. What widgets are useful or are not here that we should have? What themes or categories should we explore? What are some good blogs that we should list in our blogroll?
Feel free to leave a comment here about your suggestions for the site.

Hey Zach,
sorry it’s taken me so long to make my way to the site - life’s been really busy. Not too busy to play lots of Scramble and Scrabulous - curse you, Facebook! (Bless you, I mean - forgot for a second to be an *emerging* Baptist.) But too busy to be able to think and write at the same time, or something like that. I do, one day, intend to write down my own “dreams”, as you’ve mentioned on the facebook group - but I’m still figuring out what they are. Maybe I’ll write about that…I’m transitioning to something new, but am torn in so many different directions, and the most attractive are the least practical…my debt to the Empire doesn’t want me free to serve the Kingdom, or something like that…
Anyway, thanks for taking point on this. As for improving the site - nothing off-hand comes to mind, other than maybe referencing blog sites of us Baptimergents (horrible word). And people telling us where and when Baptist and Emergent convergence is occurring. I’d love to know about emerging Baptist congregations, for example - are there any?
One more random stream-of-consciousness, FYI comment - just got back from the SC CBF General Assembly. Had a strong justice component - check out “Metanoia” in Charleston SC if you’re not familiar with it - also strong mentions of Watering Malawi and CBF work in Allendale SC, which is part of the whole “corridor of shame” thing. One of the breakouts was on getting the 20th century church to the 21st century - leader Christina Whitehouse-Sugg, another Baptimergent, gave folks a great intro to the pomo/emerging movements, using some great slides I will steal. It was really well attended and fairly well-received - some of the best SC CBF stuff I’ve seen in the last 4 years.

Chris,
Thanks for the suggestions. I am very familiar with “Metanoia.” Bill Stanfield grew up in our church (FBC Greensboro) and I know his folks. My wife has had him come speak to the WMU about their ministry. Thanks for the reminder on that…. I will definitely link them up.
I have watering Malawi on the cause section of my facebook page. I’ll add them too.
If you know of some good blogger out there, let me know. I linked blogs that I know about, but I want to add more.

Nice layout
I just got linked here by the Emergent Village Weblog
I’m not exactly SBC in my background. I come from the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists (FEB) stream in Canada. Different but similar.
I’ve had a really hard time finding folks in my ’stream’ that are part of this conversation. So I am overjoyed that this has been set up! I’ll be around.
Later.
David.

I’m really excited to find this site and the group on Facebook. DH & I have struggled to know where we fit in. I grew up as a Baptist PK and my dh & I are both students at a Baptist seminary, but we haven’t always fit in with our emergent beliefs.
